MISSION AND PROGRAMME: INTERCEPT, LOCATE AND DESCRIBE GROUND-BASED RADARS

Data gathered from Elisa will pave the way for the upcoming Ceres programme, comprising 3 satellites scheduled to launch in 2020. The Ceres programme will help locate and intercept any type of emission, communications or radar.

Elisa (ELectronic Intelligence SAtellite) is a demonstrator initiated by the French Ministry of Defence, aiming to complete the first space demonstrators in the signals intelligence field: Cerise (1995), Clémentine (1999), and Essaim (2004). Where Essaim’s mission was to study the interception of communications, the Elisa programme strives to show that it is possible to locate ground-based radar equipment and gather intelligence on its technical characteristics from space.

Data gathered from Elisa will pave the way for the upcoming CERES programme, comprising 3 satellites scheduled to launch in 2020. The Ceres programme will help locate and intercept any type of emission, communications or radar.
